The PTG Foundation

The Piano Technicians Guild Foundation was started in 1982. Its Mission Statement is as follows: Piano Technicians Guild Foundation is formed to support the goals of PTG, The Piano Technicians Guild by preserving and displaying historical materials and providing scholarships and grants for piano performance, study and research. The Guild maintains a small lending library and historical archives library for reference and research. The PTG Foundation gives an annual scholarship to the Music Teachers National Association. This scholarship has been presented since 1982.  The Music Teachers National Association has a standing committee to select the recipient for the Foundation scholarship. This award goes to a certified piano teacher for advanced studies.

The PTG Foundation sponsors a scholarship for an Associate Member of PTG to help them advance their education.

The PTG Foundation established a Disaster Relief Fund immediately following the Katrina disaster in New Orleans.  Disaster Relief Fund is used to give aid to PTG members who are affected by natural disasters such as tornados, earthquakes, and flooding. Any member may request aid for themselves or another member by contacting the PTG Home Office at (913) 432-9975. You may make a tax deductible contribution to the PTGF Disaster Relief Fund through the PTG Home Office, 4444 Forest Ave, Kansas City, KS 66106.

The PTG Foundation Press publishes technical articles and manuals including The Piano Action Handbook, edited by Randy Potter, RPT; History of Midwest Piano Manufacturing by Jack Greenfield, RPT; New Techniques for Superior Aural Tuning by Virgil Smith, RPT; and Longitudinal Modes in Piano Strings by Jim Ellis, RPT. These books are available in the PTG Store and sales of these items benefit the PTG Foundation.

The PTG Foundation opened its museum during the 1994 International Convention that was held in Kansas City. The grand opening of the museum was toured by members of the PTG and their families during that convention. In the museum are displayed antique piano building tools, historical pictures of the PTG and the piano industry, historical manuscripts, books and documents and unique pianos and piano components that have historical significance to the piano industry.

Tax deductible contributions may be made in honor of individuals by sending them to our Home Office.

Here is a list of contributors to the Foundation including gifts to remember or honor individuals.
